THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT BIBLE MISTRANSLATIONS Temecula, CA – After reading about Santa and his flying reindeer, sans Rudolf, you see how things change from the original to the present. Sometimes these mutations are helped when one language is translated from one to another. A pair of these Bible mistranslations resulted in a gain and in a loss for folks. One mistranslation cast Muslims in with present day Christians and one mistranslation cast Mary Jane out. Though not intentional, the philosophical Greeks lacking the ‘magic’ viewpoint of a child, missed what the original word sound actually conveyed in both cases. Let’s start with Islam. There are two points that connect Muslims with Christians biblically. The first point is Ishmael, the first male child fathered by Abram and Hagar, Sarai’s handmaiden who was much younger. Abram was 86 when Hager fucked him and bore him a son. This wasn’t adultery because the Ten Commandments hadn’t been invented and Sarai had brought Hagar to Abram to give her husband and brother, a child. It would be four, FOUR years later that the Lord reappeared in person to Abram and made a covenant with him. It was THE covenant that would bring civilization to its current state of affairs. It was also at this time that Abram was changed to Abraham and Sarai to Sarah*. It is extremely interesting to note that when the Arabs went from being polytheistic to being monotheistic, the head deity name they worshipped went from female with an ‘i’ at the name end to an ’h’ and became Allah (Al – LAh with a slight ‘h’ breath huff at the end so the ‘h’ isn’t quite silent; *- Gen. 16-17). Coming almost 650 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus, the religion of Islam seems to have cherry-picked its spin to Paradise. In the Muslim version Ishmael is in the forefront as Isaac is dropped from the narrative history like a red-haired Jewish step-child. My Muslim expert had no knowledge of ‘Abram’ and for the official word, Hagar ‘was married to Abraham’ when Ishmael was born, which actually happened later according to research I uncovered. However, Islam might have wondered off to stand alone like Shinto or Buddhism except for a New Testament mistranslation they seized on to maintain being an heir of Abraham’s. It happened like this. In the days after the 3 Mary’s had left town for France perhaps because of its wine growing capabilities as much as its distance from Jerusalem, Jesus did one last mass sighting where he appeared to over 500 people simultaneously. He told them to wait for ‘the comforter’ which would ‘comfort’ his appointed miracle-working disciples as they went forth to spread the Gospel (see past stories about what that gospel really was) through the Great Commission. Research shows this ‘comforter’ to be the Holy Spirit. Though the Holy Spirit is mentioned other places in the Bible, Jesus gives the personal name of the Holy Spirit when he speaks to his private audience. He spoke this personal name in Aramaic. The Greek picked up the name but not the significance using an attribute which means ‘comfort’. When this word for ‘comfort’ was later translated into Latin, it was the word for the personal name of the Muslim prophet, once Islam became a religion, fulfilling an Old Testament prediction. It is possible to research the original Greek and discover the real proper name for those who seek the truth. The second Bible mistranslation is another oversight by the Greeks. This knowledge comes by way of Jack Herer, sort of. Readers may recall that I first met Jack at a hempseed pancake festival up in Topanga Canyon (CA). At that same meeting I also met and talked with the Osburns, Lynn and Judy, who were facing some serious jail time for being medical marijuana growers. But they were more than just growers of pot, as many pot growers are. They authored a book called Marijuana in Magic & Religion, Green Gold, The Tree of Life. The cover illustration shows a cannabis stalk to be the World Tree with the leafy top reaching to (heaven), Mankind dancing around the trunk, and the roots firmly planted in the soil reaching underground. The Osburns co-authored this book with Chris Bennett. The following Bible mistranslation report comes from Chris. ‘Then the Lord said to Moses, "Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, half as much of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels of qhaneh-bosm, 500 shekels of cassia--all according to the sanctuary shekel--and a hind of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil." Exodus 30:23 It is this term "qhaneh bosm”, or fragrant cane, that is the most remarkable of mistranslations found within the Bible. When it was rendered into Greek it became "calamus", a common marsh plant that had no place in the sacred anointing oil of Yahweh. But so (this incorrect term calamus) has come down to us. In fact the Hebrew term is qhaneh bosm, or kaneh bosm. According to Rabbi Herschels??? Hebrew-English dictionary, such eminent scholars as Sula Benet, Weston LaBarre and the British journal New Scientist, what this term refers to is none other than cannabis. Indeed the "m" which ends the word is the Hebrew plural, so in the singular it reads as 'kaneh bos" which doesn't take a leap of faith to be understood for what it is. And this opens up a whole new world of interpretation of the Good Book. A very remarkable interpretation indeed... As one shekel equals approximately 16.37 grams, this means that the THC of over 9 pounds of flowering cannabis tops, were extracted into a hind, about 6.5 liters of oil. The entheogenic effects of such a solution, even when applied topically, would undoubtedly have been intense. Only those who had been \b dedicated by the anointing oil of...God" (Leviticus 21:12) were permitted to act as priests. In the "holy" state produced by the anointing oil the priests were forbidden to leave the sanctuary precincts (Leviticus 21:12), and the above passage from Exodus, makes quite clear the sacredness of this ointment, the use of which the priests jealously guarded. Around 1980, etymologists at Hebrew University in Jerusalem confirmed that cannabis is mentioned in the Bible by name, in a list of measured ingredients for "an oil of holy ointment, an ointment compound after the art of apothecary to be smeared on the head. The word was mistranslated in King James version as ‘calamus’. - Exodus 30:23 "Take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and everything in it; consecrate it and all its furnishings, and it will be most holy. Then anoint the altar of burnt offerings and all its utensils; consecrate the altar, and it will be most holy." - Exodus 40:9 "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me... " - Isaiah 61:1” There are 3 noble causes in my life: the integration of public dining in Louisville, KY; Invisible Children; and the cause for medical marijuana patients/hemp awareness.
