THE JOINING OF TWO RIVERS

OLA, CA – When I first came to California, a state known for both strict conservatism and ultra libertine attitudes, I saw a divided river. On Monday, October 24, two of that river's channels seeking relief from government oppression and hypocrisy will merge in the afternoon at City Hall, the center dot of Occupy LA, and where I now dispatch from*. As with many unions and populist causes, medical marijuana has been one of the main raw rubs of the occupiers and now, Lordy, the hard toilers of the movement have started to line up in the shade of freedom uniting the 99% from the brutal government sun that they claim is the son. Read Lanny’s own words:

Monday, October 24 is going to be a day you will look back at with pride – it will be a day that will empower and fulfill. I am so excited by the response we have had in the Inland Empire – an excitement level that is only exceeded by the excitement of actually being at the Rally and standing up proudly and affirmatively for our rights as patients and as American citizens.

We are standing up for the rights of states under the 10th Amendment to govern in all those areas reserved to the states like the practice of medicine. We are standing up for the rights of responsible firearm ownership under the 2nd Amendment like the rights of medical marijuana patients to own a gun (although to me marijuana and guns are an oxymoron). Most importantly we are standing up for our own personal right to pursue happiness and determine what is in the best interest of our own personal health and that of our families.

Americans for Safe Access know how to put on an exciting and effective rally and the LA Rally will be another jewel. Dynamic speakers will enthrall and inspire us. Keynote speaker Anna T. Boyce RN will share her tragic tale of betrayal and dismay while watching local police co-opt the federal government into undermining the voters of California and sacrificing our democratic institutions at the altar of marijuana prohibition.

You will bear witness as Ms. Boyce enters the Federal Building to deliver her letter to U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. asking for an end to the violence being carried out by the federal government. As the one of the authors and sponsors of Prop. 215, the letter will ask President Obama to meet to peacefully resolve the differences between our federal government and the 15 states and the District of Columbia that have authorized the use of marijuana medicinally when recommended by a physician.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of the LA Rally as it is the first in a series of rallies to challenge the Obama administration on this malevolent police action - an action that the Obama administration is now denying any involvement in and is claiming that the actions were undertaken independently by California’s four U.S. Attorney without their consultation.

This is BS, but there is political blowback welling up and with what is expected to be a close election for the President and other Democratic candidates, the backing off of responsibility for the federal police action in California is telling.

You need to be at the LA Federal Building rally to ensure our message of back off and get out is heard, understood and heeded. Make the time to be in LA this Monday, October 24 at 12 noon. Whether you drive yourself, take Metrolink or join us on the free bus from the THCF Patient Center in Riverside, join with your friends, family members and fellow medical marijuana patients and advocates and for Stop the Attack and End the Invasion rally at the Roybal Federal Building at 255 E. Temple Street for what will be an afternoon you will treasure forever and not soon forget.

Making the afternoon even more memorable will be our two block march after our rally to join up with Occupy Los Angeles as we proclaim Arrest Wall Street Bankers, Not Medical Marijuana Providers. I look forward to standing in solidarity with you on this most momentous occasion.”
